After much argument and watching the situation get more and more dire, we agreed on a daring strategy requiring many sacrifices. We had heated discussions because nobody is excited about being the one who has to give things up just to help others in what is likely a doomed endeavor anyway.Īs we got closer to the end, the siege engines of doom encroaching upon us, emotions were rising. One of us would have to make a sacrifice so someone else could make a daring attempt to win some artifact that might help bring us closer to victory, only to see that attempt fail because of an unlucky roll of the dice. The only way to have any chance of winning was by making tough choices and working together. Why? Because we - the players - were all in it together, trying to beat the game instead of one another. Every turn brought you closer to defeat, everything you tried carried a risk of failure, and the only way to win was by making a lot of sacrifices. I was hanging out with some friends and some friends of friends. I was introduced to the game a few years ago.
